Garbage & Public Nuisance
The Garbage and Public Nuisance Ordinance for Unincorporated areas of Cook County has been approved by the Cook County Board of Commissioners. This comprehensive ordinance prohibits a variety of nuisances, including the accumulation of garbage, improper storage, failure to cut grass and weeds or to maintain any building, structure or property so that it is unhealthy or unfit for human occupancy, burning or storing garbage in improper containers, allowing litter to accumulate and throwing garbage into a container owned by another person without their consent.
A comprehensive list of declared nuisances and penalties is available. The Cook County Department of Public Health is authorized to investigate and write violations.
